Fire quickly extinguished at single-story 3-unit rowhouse at Lawndale Avenue and Central Street in Evanston (VIDEO: Jim McCall/YouTube.com/SRResquire).
Police and firefighter/paramedics from Evanston responded about 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2020 to a report of a fire in a 3-unit single-story rowhouse fire in the block of 2500 Lawndale Avenue. Firefighters on arrival discovered smoke showing from roof eaves and soffits. Firefighters brought at two hand lines to the front door of one of the units.
Firefighters from Skokie and Wilmette were assigned to respond to the scene for mutual aid for Evanston firefighters. Firefighters ventilated the roof by cutting a hole in the roof with power saws. Fire command began to return out-of-town fire crews by 11:20 a.m. The fire involved significant extension from the first floor to the attic and to the basement.
A main aerial ladder was elevated to the roof, and a ground ladder was brought to the rear of the house.
A MABAS Division 3 Box Alarm #21-I-681 was activated at 11:07 a.m. The MABS Division 3 North Fire Investigators Team was dispatched to the scene.
There were no injuries were reported.
