Libertyville police responded about 11:24 a.m. Friday, October 30, 2020 to a report of a robbery at Rolland’s Jewelers, 500 North Milwaukee Avenue in Libertyville.
Upon arrival police learned there was a retail robbery, and that the offender left the scene prior to their arrival. Police learned that an adult male entered the business and looked at jewelry for approximately 30 minutes. The male subject then showed the employee a note which implied that he had a gun, took the items he was browsing, and left the business with diamond stones valued at approximately $150,000. A gun was not displayed. The robbery may have occurred at 11:20 a.m. — a few minutes before police were called.
The suspect exited Rolland’s Jewelers, fled westbound on Cook Avenue and got into a black 4-door vehicle — possibly with black wheel rims. Initially, police were not sure whether the suspect traveled west on Cook Avenue or south on Milwaukee Avenue, but apparently security camera evidence and/or witness reports verified that the suspect drove west on Cook Avenue and then south on Brainerd Avenue located one block west of Rolland’s Jewelers.
The male suspect was described as a male/white or male/Hispanic in his late 20s or early 30s, approximately 6 feet tall, 200 LBS with black hair, wearing a white and gray baseball hat, a blue hooded sweatshirt with a white T-shirt under the sweatshirt, blue jeans, and tan or brown boots.
The Libertyville Fire Department paramedics were called to the scene to check on the employe that was involved in the encounter. No injuries were reported and the employee was released at the scene.
Libertyville Police Department released information about the robbery on their official Facebook page at 3:08 p.m. Friday, October 30, 2020.
Following the on-scene investigation, the crime investigation by the Libertyville Police Department is continuing. Libertyville Police Department urge anyone who may have information related to the incident to call the Libertyville Police Department’s non-emergency at 847-362-8310.
