We’re expecting increasing surface winds with gusts in the 30 MPH range from the southeast gradually increasing to a peak gust period about 3:00 p.m. reaching 41 MPH likely with 55 MPH possible. Winds will shift to the west about noon, and to the northwest by 3:00 p.m. Winds will calm down about 6:00 p.m.
Rain is most likely between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Monday, Columbus Day. Lightning and thunder is possible in this period, but rain is expected to be short-lived with less than 0.25-inch accumulation. Areas where rain is limited my be in a fire threat area Tuesday with gusty winds and low humidity (mid-70s south and east of I-55).
Today’s high temperature of 68 is expected about 10:00 a.m. to noon with the afternoon gradually cooling to 56°F by 6:00 p.m. and a low Tuesday morning of about 46°F with the arrival of a cold front this afternoon. Note tomorrow will warm up to the low 70s in Arlington Heights and the northwest suburbs.

Breezy, with a south southeast wind 15 to 25 mph becoming west northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
