Wauconda police responded about 3:15 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2020 to the report of an armed robbery in the 400 block of Old Country Way. Police stated that three male teens were outside in their vehicle around 3:15 a.m. when they were boxed in by a white Jeep Cherokee and a black passenger vehicle. Eight to ten males exited the vehicles and began hitting the victims and demanding their phones and wallets while they were still seated in their vehicle. Two of the victims then had guns pointed at them. Several items were removed from the victim’s vehicle prior to the offenders leaving the area.
Wauconda police located four masked, hooded vehicle burglars in the Country Ridge subdivision while on patrol. Police officers engaged in a pursuit of the suspects, but terminated the pursuit for safety reasons. Later on Saturday, the suspects were believed to be connected to the armed robbery report on Old Country Way.
On Tuesday, September 22, 2020 police officers and detectives from Round Lake Beach Police Department (RLBPD) located the white Jeep Cherokee, which had been entered in to a law enforcement database as stolen. They began to investigate and also located a stolen black Mazda and a stolen yellow Chevrolet Camaro. Nine juveniles were brought back to RLBPD for questioning. Several of the suspects admitted to stealing many vehicles from Lake County, McHenry County, and Winnebago County, as well as committing countless car burglaries in those same counties.
Several other agencies also arrived at RLBPD to question the suspects for crimes committed in their jurisdictions. After Wauconda detectives completed a thorough investigation, these suspects were linked to the armed robbery as well as at least a dozen car burglaries in Wauconda which occurred recently.
One 17 year-old male juvenile was charged with Armed Robbery, Armed Violence and Mob Action and one 16 year old male juvenile was charged with Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Armed Robbery, Armed Violence and Mob Action. Charges are pending on the other juveniles involved.
