Police and firefighter/paramedics from Wheeling and Prospect Heights responded about 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2020 to a report of a crash with entrapment and ejection at Wolf Rod and Messner Drive in Wheeling.
Firefighter/paramedics and police arrived to find a large gray SUV on its roof and a box truck rolled over on the passenger side. One of the vehicle occupants was ejected onto a Chicago Executive Airport taxiway. Both vehicles rolled over into airport property.
One person died at the scene, and one person was treated with CPR and Advanced Life Support at the scene, and transported to a nearby hospital, where the person was pronounced dead. At least one other person was injured.
The Major Case Assistance Team Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (MCAT-STAR) team was dispatched to the scene, and was working an extended crash investigation Wednesday.
Apparently one of the vehicles was traveling northbound on Wolf Road, and the other vehicle was traveling eastbound on Messner Drive. The box truck was marked with a Vivint Solar sign. Vivint Solar is located at 70 Messner Drive about one block west of the crash scene.
Chicago Executive Airport remained open during the crash rescue and investigation operations.
Wolf Road was closed between Palatine Road and Hintz Road. Messner Drive was closed at Wolf Road.
