Rosemont police responded about 11:05 a.m. Sunday, September 6, 2020 to a report that a gray 2020 Range Rover was stolen from a restaurant parking lot in the block of 5400 River Road in Rosemont.
Police recovered the vehicle and had the suspect in custody by 12:43 p.m. Sunday.
Video surveillance showed a male offender entering a 2020 Range Rover parked outside a Rosemont restaurant in the block of 5400 River Road about 11:05 a.m. Sunday. The suspect then drove away with the Range Rover.
Video surveillance video also showed the offender exiting the car at a gas station on Touhy Avenue. The Range Rover doors locked while the suspect was out of the vehicle, and the suspect left the area of the gas station. Police later located the suspect at a Des Plaines casino, and police officers recovered four plastic bags of a white powdery substance thought to be heroin, from the suspect and defendant, according to Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Loukas Kalliantasis.
The suspect was identified as a 36-year-old parolee, Terrance Poindexter, who prosecutors say has been sentenced to prison at least five times since 2003. On Sunday, Terrance Poindexter was taken into custody and charged with 1) possession of a stolen motor vehicle and 2) possession of a controlled substance.
Terrance Poindexter was ordered held on $75,000 bail Tuesday, September 8, 2020.
Terrance Poindexter’s background includes convictions and prison sentences for resisting a peace officer in 2018, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, possession of a controlled substance and theft, according to Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Loukas Kalliantasis.
Terrance Poindexter is scheduled for a court date at Rolling Meadows Circuit Court on Friday, September 25, 2020.
