A 20-year-old male suspect, Benjamin Banuelos, of Des Plaines was arrested Wednesday, September 23, 2020 and charged with criminal sexual assault of a female teen victim. A co-offender accused of sexual assault is at large.
According to Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney C.J. Orrantia, Benjamin Banuelos, an unidentified co-offender, and the female teen victim, along with several other people, were at the co-offender’s apartment in Mount Prospect on August 22, 2020 when the alleged crime occurred.
Also according to Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney C.J. Orrantia, there was beer and vodka at the apartment when the girl arrived with another person. At one point, the co-offender allegedly took the girl to a bedroom where he sexually assaulted her, ignoring her requests to stop.
A witness, who was at the Mount Prospect apartment and “was too drunk to help her” left with the co-offender. Allegedly, Banuelos subsequently sexually assaulted the girl then told her “to get dressed and get out.”
The female victim called her mother, and she subsequently reported the assault to Des Plaines police.
Criminal Sexual Assault, a Class 1 Felony punishable by up to 12 years in prison.
According to court records, Benjamin Banuelos was ordered held without bond Thursday, September 24, 2020, and is scheduled to appear in Cook County Circuit Court on October 9, 2020.
