Police from Barrington Hills and firefighter/paramedics from East Dundee FPD responded about 6:51 a.m. Saturday September 5, 2020 to a report of a crash with ejection at Dundee Road and Bateman Road.
Rescuers on arrival discovered two people were injured in a crash involving two pickup trucks on the west side of Barrington Hills. An 87 year-old driver of one of the pickup trucks was ejected during the crash.
Barrington Hills police reported the preliminary investigation indicates that a pickup truck driven south on Bateman Road by an 87-year-old man collided with a truck driven east on Dundee Road by a 43-year-old man.
Both crash victims were transported to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Police said the investigation closed the roads in the area for about five hours.
The crash remains under investigation by the Barrington Hills Police Department and the Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County. Bateman Road is controlled by two-way stop signs. The Speed Limit on southbound Bateman Road is 30 MPH with “curve warning” signs. The Speed Limit on eastbound Dundee Road west of Bateman Road is 55 MPH.
For driver’s traveling at 55 MPH on Dundee Road (regarding stopping distance), the intersection has poor visibility to Bateman Road cross traffic that violates the stop signs because that cross traffic is obscured by trees near the corners.
