Chicago Magnificent Mile robbery of 85-year-old woman (Security video acquired by CWB Chicago).
Chicago police on Friday August 28, 2020 arrested a 45-year-old male suspect accused of attacking an 85-year-old woman outside her Magnificent Mile condo building in the block of 100 East Grand Avenue about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday August 25, 2020.
The attack was caught on a security camera.
Tony Davis was arrested and charged with aggravated battery and robbery. He was arrested and investigated after he was stopped for a CTA violation.
Surveillance video from Tuesday August 25, 2020 collected as evidence, shows Tony Davis approaching the woman from behind and pulling her purse which caused her to fall to the ground.
The woman, who was using a cane, fell backwards, and the offender kept pulling on the purse until it was pulled of her shoulder and across her neck.
The woman was motionless for a few seconds, and a man from inside the building arrived to help her, just after the offender fled from the scene.
Witnesses reported the offender fled westbound on Grand Avenue and continued up to the main level of Michigan Avenue. He apparently had two accomplices.
The woman suffered an injury to the back of her head, and was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where her condition was initially unknown.
