Apartment fire on East Circle Hill Drive in Arlington Heights Friday evening; neighborhood children yell “Thank you, firefighters” at about 2:20 elapsed time.
Police and firefighter/paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 6:42 p.m. Friday August 14, 2020 to a report of an apartment fire in the block of 500 East Circle Drive.
Firefighters arrived to find light smoke coming out of the rear of the apartment building and then heavy smoke in a common hallway. Firefighters entered the apartment and extinguished a kitchen fire. The fire was contained to the kitchen.
The incident was upgraded to a working fire response by 6:48 p.m. and the fire was extinguished by 6:56 p.m. with one 1 3/4” hose line. Electric power was temporarily shut down to the building by ComEd.
A primary search of the apartment unit on fire and adjacent apartment units was underway immediately. An “all clear” on the primary search for victims in the apartment unit that was on fire was declared by 6:59 p.m. Initially there were no reported injuries.
Firefighters from Buffalo Grove and Palatine assisted Arlington Heights firefighters at the scene. Palatine firefighters were assigned to search the second floor. Prospect Heights firefighters stood by at an Arlington Heights fire station.
