Aircraft Crash at East Side of Rockford International Airport

One person was killed in a plane crash in Rockford Thursday when a small craft skidded off the runway and burst into flames.

Police and firefighter/paramedics from Rockford responded about 3:44 p.m. Thursday August 20, 2020 to a report of an aircraft crash near Runway 1/19 at Rockford International Airport.

The crash involved a twin-engine King Air, which can transport up to 10 people. Officials updated Thursday evening that one person was onboard the crashed aircraft. The crash scene is located on the east side of the airport near Runway 1/19 near the middle-south half of the runway, and near Falcon Road just east of the airport property.

The aircraft was involved with heavy smoke and fire, and was shown charred and broken in pieces after the fire was extinguished by Rockford firefighters.
