Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Thursday morning July 2, 2020 that new U.S. coronavirus infections diagnosed in a single day surged past 50,000 for the first time on Wednesday June 1, 2020.
The figure of 50,203 set a new record for the total cases reported in 24 hours in the United States.
According to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, the the reported 50,203 new coronavirus cases, brought the total COVID-19 cases to more than 2.68 million in the United States. The previous record of 45,255 cases was recorded last week on June 26, 2020.
On Thursday there were 2,715,124 cases reported in the United States and 10,763,604 worldwide, while the global death toll is 517,667. Critics that downplay the seriousness of the epidemic, such as Amy Jacobson and Dan Proft of Chicago’s Morning Answer on AM560 claim that deaths are not increasing in the sun belt or anywhere else in the United States, and are critical of people who use the figures to spread panic. Critics also emphasize that more testing means more positive test results. Critics also oppose lockdowns because of consequent death increases by other causes, such as drug overdoses.
Deaths are not increasing. Four weeks of decline in number of fatalities. Stop politicizing a virus, doctor. https://t.co/XMuD21VLXb

Deaths are not increasing in the sun belt or anywhere else in the U.S. Please stop spreading misinformation. https://t.co/P7wK2OvsXD

Except none of this will happen. The new cases are younger and asymptomaric. These people aren’t dying and aren’t even in the hospital with COVID symptoms. You are just parroting panic talking points. The fatality rate has been dropping for 4 weeks. Please stop your nonsense. https://t.co/xznQAD35KO

Lockdowns kill. https://t.co/BlsA2NL2h9

Fauci said the last several days have been the worst yet for the United States, where there have been more COVID-19 infections than anywhere else in the world. Fauci said Wednesday’s record marked the worst spike that we’ve seen.
Recently more than half of the new cases in the United States each day are from Arizona, California, Florida and Texas. The four states consist of about 30 percent of the country’s population. Fauci warned at a Senate Committee on Tuesday June 30, 2020 that daily cases nationwide could top 100,000 if people do not work together to slow the spread of the virus.
