Illinois State Police and firefighter/paramedics from Mokena and New Lenox responded about 4:32 p.m Wednesday July 29, 2020 to a report of a serious crash on westbound Interstate 80 near Mile Marker 141 (just east of I-355). Homer Township FPD tender also dispatched to the scene.
UPDATE: 5 hospitalized in crash involving three semi-trailer trucks and two other vehicles.
Firefighter/paramedics were treating at least one crash victim with life-threatening injuries. At least two semi-trailer trucks were involved in the crash, and there was possibly one passenger vehicle rolled over in the crash, but this was an initial report that was not confirmed. At least one semi-trailer truck was on fire, and debris is scattered across several lanes.
All westbound lanes of I-80 are shut down.
Westbound traffic is backed up past US 45 almost to 80th Avenue at 5:15 p.m. The ramp to northbound I-355 was blocked by the debris.
Eastbound traffic is backed up almost to US 30. Southbound I-355 traffic does not seem to be seriously affected.
