Mount Prospect police officers responded to multiple 911 calls about 4:35 p.m. Wednesday July 1, 2020 near the Frost Elementary school at 1805 North Aspen Drive. As police arrived, the driver of a white minivan fled the scene
Mount Prospect police and Illinois State Police troopers were involved in an active police pursuit beginning about seven minutes after the 9-1-1 calls were received. The pursuit began about 4:42 p.m. near Rand Road and Central Road. The suspects entered southbound I-294 and the pursuit continued on I-294 to an area just south of Oakton Street.
The driver of the white Dodge Caravan stopped on southbound I-294 near Mile Post 43.25. Possibly four people in custody by about 4:50 p.m.
All lanes were blocked temporarily on southbound I-294 in the area, then two lanes were opened. Southbound I-294 was blocked past Ballard Road near Des Plaines at 5:00 p.m.
Mount Prospect police investigated the scene near Frost Elementary School and say they found shell casings at the scene and recovered the gun that Mikulski fired during the incident.
According to the Mount Prospect Police Department, Jacob Mikulski fired a handgun at four people who fled the scene in the white minivan; the unnamed driver of the vehicle was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer after leading responding officers in a pursuit. Mikulski was not in the minivan.
Jacob Mikulski, 25, of the 800 block of East Willow Road, Prospect Heights, was arrested days later and on July 10, 2020, was charged with one felony count of aggravated discharge of a firearm stemming from the shots fired incident on Wednesday July 1, 2020 near Frost Elementary School.
Mount Prospect Police Department said detectives determined that the shots fired incident involved a motive that was gang-related.
Mikulski’s bond was set at $25,000, and his next court date is July 31 in Rolling Meadows Cook County Circuit Court.
