Wheeling mobile home fire spreads to adjacent mobile homes on Brougham Drive.
Police and firefighter/paramedics from Wheeling responded about 3:49 p.m. Friday July 10, 2020 to a report of a mobile home fire in the block of 0-99 Brougham Drive.
Firefighters arrived to find a mobile home entire involved with fire showing on all sides. Firefighters reported they were attacking the fire in defensive mode. Initially there was a report that two children may have been inside, but all residents outside of the mobile home. A dog perished inside the mobile home. One of the children wanted to go back inside the mobile home to get the dog, but he was stopped by police, according to neighbors.
The fire at the original was knocked down quickly, but a flare up occurred at the mobile home to the west of the original fire home. The mobile home to the east of the original fire home was also damaged.
Two neighbors heard that children may have been involved with a gasoline can and matches, but initially there was no official confirmation of a suspected cause of the fire.
A MABAS Division 3 Box Alarm #2401 was activated by 4:01 p.m. Firefighters from Deerfield, Lake Zurich, Lincolnshire, Northfield, Palatine, Prospect Heights, and Schaumburg assisted Wheeling firefighters at the scene. Paramedics from Palatine Rural Fire Protection District and Lake Forest stood by at the scene and were assigned rehab of firefighters at the scene.
Chiefs from Arlington Heights, Long Grove and Prospect Heights also responded to the scene.
