Chicago Police Department is investigating a fatal crash after a police SUV crashed with a motorbike at about 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday July 8, 2020 near Halsted Street and 118th Street in Chicago. A man on the motorbike was killed, and three Chicago police officers were injured. WGN’s Courtney Gousman reported the lights and sirens were activated on the Chicago police SUV when the crash occurred near the Major Taylor Trail, named after a famous cyclist Marshall Walter “Major” Taylor from the late 1800s and early 1900s.
The Major Taylor Trail, which opened in 2007, is a six-mile-long rail trail that is located on the South Side of Chicago. The trail runs from near Elizabeth Street and Throop Street southeast to the Whistler Woods Forest Preserve south of 129th Place and south of the Little Calumet River near Riverdale.
