3 Chicago Police Officers Shot, Offender Shot at Rear of 25th District Grand Central Police Station, Chicago

Chicago Police Station Shooting at 25th District Police Station at Grand and Central (rear at Armitage) where at least approximately 54 shots were heard fire after this cellphone video began recording.

Police and firefighter/paramedics from Chicago responded about 9:37 a.m. Thursday July 30, 2020 to a report that a police officer was shot at the 25th District Grand Central at 5555 West Grand Avenue in Chicago. The shooting scene was just outside sally port door at the rear of the 25th District police facility, and apparently occurred while Chicago police officers were transporting a prisoner.

UPDATE:
Carjacking suspect (wanted for investigation of a carjacking downtown Chicago June 26, 2020) was being transferred at a police SUV when he was able to fire several shots at police officers.

One police officer shot chin, neck and/or chest (not confirmed).

Second police officer shot in the hip and transported to Loyola Medical Center.

Third police officer shot in protective vest with not penetrating wound.

Two police officers suffered chest pains and were transported to Loyola Medical Center.

The carjacking suspect was transported to Stroger Hospital.

All available police units in the area were requested to the scene. There was also a report at 9:41 a.m. of shots being fired with exchange of gunfire heard in the background on the radio. After the police officer and the offender were shot, the offender’s weapon was reported secured by about 9:43 a.m. The offender was also reported down by about 9:43 a.m.

 GUNFIRE … 

EMS was on the scene by 9:46 a.m., when a second ambulance was also requested for the offender that was shot. Both the police officer and the offender were transported Advanced Life Support “Code Red” to a nearby hospital. The seriously injured police officer was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. A second police officer was also injured. He was transported to Loyola.

A rear passenger door was open at the police SUV that was apparently involved in the prisoner transport. Multiple shots were fired at the scene.

The 25th District, located in the Hanson Park neighborhood, serves the neighborhoods of Belmont-Cragin, Hermosa, Galewood, North Austin, Garfield Park, Mont Clare, Belmont Heights, Hanson Park, Kilbourn Park, Logan Square and Humboldt Park.
