In April 2020, Arlington Heights officials announced a worldwide business was planning to locate a short-term warehousing, sorting and distribution operation at a vacant building on the northwest side of Arlington Heights. Also, in April 2020, then unidentified Amazon facility details were released by Conor Real Estate regarding a rumored Amazon distribution center at 315 South Hicks Road in Palatine. The Palatine Amazon facility was confirmed publicly in May 2020 and is scheduled for an October 2020 opening. Next, in June 2020 — at an Arlington Heights Village Board Meeting on Monday night June 15, 2020 — an Arlington Heights Amazon facility was confirmed to be in the planning and approval stages, and it was revealed that the Arlington Heights Amazon facility is scheduled for a September 2020 opening.

Seattle-based Amazon’s proposal, previously with an unknown identity to the public, received support of board members in early April 2020 for a Cook County Class 6b property tax break for the facility in northwest Arlington Heights. The vacant 215,000-square-foot office and warehouse building at 1455 West Shure Drive will be assessed at lower levels for 12 years. The site is the former location of the Nokia Siemens Networks Arlington Heights facility, which occupied the site from September 2011 until December 2017.
