AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT CDT THURSDAY NIGHT
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has determined that an
air pollution action day continues for the greater Chicago
Metropolitan Area and is in effect until midnight CDT Thursday night. The Air Quality Alert is in effect for the following county areas: McHenry, Lake IL, Kane, DuPage, Kendall, Grundy, Northern Cook, Central Cook, Southern Cook, Northern Will, Southern Will, and Eastern Will.
An air pollution action day is declared when weather conditions are
such that widespread ozone and or particulate levels are expected to be at or above the unhealthy for sensitive groups category of the air quality index.
Active children and adults especially people with pulmonary or
respiratory disease such as asthma should limit prolonged outdoor
activity.
Area residents are urged to reduce pollution levels. Air quality forecasts and tips on how you can reduce your emissions can be found at www.airnow.gov … reporting Ozone 90 and PM2.5 64 — both moderate.
Chicagoland is in a stagnant air mass and under a ridge that is wedged between deep troughing over the northern Rockies and a stalled mid-level Low over the Mid-Atlantic states. Humidity is low and a lake breeze will exist near Lake Michigan, keeping comfort levels good. At 1:51 p.m. at O’Hare International Airport, the NWS reported the heat index (84°F) was lower than the air temperature (86°F) with a humidity of 29%.
Weather Radar (also nexrad.chgowx.com) in northeast Illinois is clear.
Warm weather will continue into the weekend, though it will be a little cooler near the lakeshore today and Thursday. Thunderstorm chances will gradually increase Friday through Saturday, with the highest chances Saturday afternoon into Saturday night. #ILwx #INwx pic.twitter.com/uFtOkZqjMV
