Looting Businesses in the Neighborhoods of Chicago; Walmart on Stewart Ave “This Place Looks Like Beirut”

Following is a sampling of looting, criminal damage and arson activity in Chicago neighborhoods outside of the loop after the loop was closed off to non-residents and non-essential workers. These are all City of Chicago addresses and may be updated with delays throughout the night. As expected with downtown lockdown in Chicago; looting, criminal damage and arson has moved to the neighborhoods, especially the south side.

Mob breaking into Mission South Shore Cannabis Dispensary at 86th Street and Commercial Avenue about 6:40 p.m.

Smoke in the sky reported near 79th Street and Western. Crews on arrival reported black smoke coming a fire in a strip mall (50×125 feet) at 2020 West 79th Street elevated to a Still and Box alarm at 5:32 p.m. A lot of looting going on at this scene with heavy black smoke coming out the front of a strip mall. There were three fires in this area (will be updated later). The Still and Box was struck out at 6:10 p.m.

Large crowd looting and traffic jam at A & S Beverages at 308 East 75th Street at 5:00 p.m.

Looting at Jewel-Osco and Rainbow Store at 34th Street MLK Drive.

Rioters looting at business at Western and Madison

Looters through broken window at the Rainbow store at 47th Street and Ashland Avenue about 3:54 p.m.

Looters at the Walgreens at 47th Street and Ashland Avenue about 3:51 p.m.

Looting with the store owner on scene at 207 West 103rd Street about 3:51 p.m.

Looter activity also reported at 50th Street and Ashland Avenue.

Firefighters already on the streets are reporting smoke in neighborhoods before the fires are even called in to 9-1-1.




Looters breaking into Walgreens at Homan and Roosevelt about 3:50 p.m.

Looting already completed at 85th Street and Commercial about 3:49 p.m.

Currency exchange on fire at 87th Street and Halsted at 3:44 p.m.

Walmart at 8331 Stewart Avenue with damage and mayhem, but no smoke showing. Traffic and crowds were not initially allowing firefighters into parking lot about 3:38 p.m. Crowd hostile toward media on the scene, “looks like Beirut.”

Looting stores at 69th and West End at 3:36 p.m.
