The Lake Zurich Fire Department responded at 2:02 a.m. Monday May 25, 2020 to a report of three people in the water after a 12-foot row boat overturned in Lake Zurich. First responder companies arrive to the beachfront in the block of 100 North Old Rand Road to hear the victims calling for help out in the lake. Lake Zurich Fire Department crews deployed a dive rescue boat and were able to rescue two individuals that were clinging into a marker buoy. Later it was discovered that the third victim was reported to have swam to the shore.
Lake Zurich incident command activated MABAS Dive Box 32-69 to the Box level for divers, boats and sonar technicians in case the third victim had gone under the water surface. The first two victims were brought to the shore for a medical evaluation by paramedics. After interviewing the first two victims, Lake Zurich police and fire were able to locate the third victim at a residence one block from the lakefront.
All of the victims were evaluated and released after refusing transport to the hospital. The Lake Zurich Fire Department received assistance from firefighters and divers from Long Grove Fire Protection District, Barrington, Wauconda Fire District, Buffalo Grove, Lake Forest, Lincolnshire Fire Protection District, Hoffman Estates, Rolling Meadows, Wheeling, Arlington Heights, and Palatine Rural Fire Protection District.
