Derek Chauvin, the police officer caught on video with his knee on George Floyd’s neck — a method of restraint identified by experts as an improper restraint — has been arrested around noon Friday May 29, 2020. Initially, the charge(s) against Derek Chauvin were not available to the public, but by mid-afternoon charges were announced as 3rd-Degree Murder and Manslaughter.
Chauvin has 18 prior complaints of improper conduct, including conduct involving violence. Initially the details of the complaints were not revealed.
The four police officers involved in the death of George Floyd have refused to speak with investigators.
Former D.C. police detective and defense attorney Ted Williams spoke on Fox News Thursday, May 28, 2020 that the Minneapolis police officer captured on video with his knee on the neck of George Floyd on Monday May 25, 2020 should have been arrested and charged “right there on the scene.”
