Live from the McCormick Place alternate care facility with Gov. JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, speakers presented with the backdrop of an empty building transformed in five days to establish 500 hospital rooms, 14 nursing stations, and several supply rooms. The facility is larger than the largest hospital in Illinois. Illinois National Guard personnel, Army Engineering Corp and construction workers stood behind the speakers.

By the end of the month there will be 3,000 beds at the facility at McCormick Place. The facility will serve low acuity patients with Coronavirus COVID-19 disease. The facility, designed to serve mild to moderate Coronavirus illnesses, is the first of its kind.

A staffing model is still being designed. The shifts will be 12-hours, but the number of consecutive days worked for each medical staff professional has not been determined.
