Gov. JB Pritzker says Illinois may be ‘bending the curve,’ but crowd limits will likely last into summer, and people need to think seriously about canceling large summer events.
Governor JB Pritzker during his daily update on the coronavirus pandemic announced during the question and answer period that he doesn’t expect summer festivals to be operating during the Summer of 2020.
“I think everybody needs to think seriously about canceling large summer events. From my perspective today, I do not see how we are going to have large gathering of people — again — until we have a vaccine, which is months and months away.”
— Gov. JB Pritzker
Some summer festivals have already announced cancellations. The cancellation of the 2020 Decatur Celebration was officially officially announced on Friday April 3, 2020.
Frontier Days 2020 is scheduled for Wednesday July 1, 2020 to Sunday July 5, 2020. On Thursday April 9, 2020, the official Frontier Days website did not mention any modifications or cancellations for the festival, which has been operated since the 1970s without interruption.
Entertainment acts on the main stage are usually announced in May — officially on the same day as the Memorial Day Parade.
