Trading halted for 15 minutes at the opening of the U.S. financial stock market Monday 9, 2020 [Google] [Bing]
U.S. financial markets dropped as trading began on Monday, March 9, 2020 with the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 1,800 points (more than -7%), and the Nasdaq down by more than 6%. After the halt and trading resuming, the Dow was down about 1,400 points (-5.5%),the S&P 500 was down about 150 (-5.3%) and the Nasdaq was down about 400 (-5%)
Trading was halted by an automatic circuit breaker safety mechanism that activates to prevent a free fall of stock prices. The market sell-off was blamed on fears of economic fallout of the coronavirus outbreak and uncertainty over falling oil prices.
