A powerful upper level jet stream, a deepening low moving out from Colorado, wind shear, a warm front and a cold front are ingredients that could create supercells and tornados on Saturday, March 28, 2020. Watch for severe weather and possible tornados between 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. in northwest Illinois, and 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. in northeast Illinois The worst weather is currently expected to be west of Interstate 39, but Arlington Heights and neighboring suburbs are on the eastern edge of a strong tornado threat region. The most severe weather in Arlington Heights might not arrive until around 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Tornados, damaging winds, hail, and lightning are possible Saturday.
South of I-88, severe storms could occur overnight Friday into Saturday morning.
At 8:15 p.m. air temperature near St. Louis is 72°F and air temperature in Arlington Heights is 45°F.
Weather Radar (also nexrad.chgowx.com) at 8:15 p.m. shows thundershowers momoving from north Cook County and Lake County out to Lake Michigan. A small line is also moving through McHenry County near the Illinois-Wisconsin border.
