Crystal Lake police responded just before 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2020 investigating an open 9-1-1 call (a 9-1-1 call with nobody speaking on the other end) in the area of the block of 6100 Northwest Highway. Police found a dead man floating on the west side of the Three Oaks Recreational Area.

Three male suspects were taken into custody Tuesday afternoon after officers found them at the scene. One of the men was covered in blood, police said. All three male suspects were described as acquaintances of the dead man, whose identity was released Wednesday as Robert L Krikie Jr., age 51. The homicide victim was also described as a transient.

The Crystal Lake Police Department on Wednesday morning March 18, 2020 released the identities of the three transient male suspects, who face murder and robbery charges.

Michael M. Miller, 33, is charged with five counts of first-degree murder, one count of robbery, two counts of aggravated battery, concealment of a homicidal death and mob action.

Devin J. Petersen, 23, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder, robbery, two counts of aggravated battery, concealment of a homicidal death and mob action.

William P. Linke, 50, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder, one count of robbery, two counts of aggravated battery, one count of concealment of a homicidal death and one count mob action.

All three male suspects are in custody at the McHenry County jail awaiting bond hearings scheduled for Friday, March 20, 2020 in Room 302 McHenry County Court.

Crystal Lake Police Department described the homicide as an isolated event and said there is no known danger to the public.
