Illinois State Police troopers and local firefighters and paramedics responded just before 8:50 a.m. Tuesday March 3, 2020 to a private plane crash in the southbound lanes of Interstate 55 at milepost 126.A deadly plane crash has closed a stretch of interstate in Lincoln, Illinois.
According to the Illinois State Police southbound lanes of Interstate 55 at milepost 126 were closed after a small plane crashed, and would remain closed for about 4-5 hours, until about 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, March3, 2020. Northbound lanes were open.
The Illinois State Police also reported at 9:11 a.m. that IDOT is on scene and will be working on a detour.
The aircraft became engulfed in flames while on the interstate. Police reported three people were killed.
The Federal Aviation Administration is responding to the crash scene.

Lincoln is located about 129 miles northeast of St. Louis, and 34 miles north-northeast of Springfield. Lincoln is also about 170 miles southwest of Chicago.
