Police shot a man they said was armed outside of a 7-Eleven in Skokie Monday night (Eric Cox/CBS Chicago).
Skokie Police responded about 11:16 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2020 to a report of a suspicious person inside a dark-colored SUV at the 7-Eleven at 7950 Crawford Avenue, according to the police department.
Skokie Police Department reported that as police officers approached the vehicle, a male inside the SUV displayed a semi-automatic handgun. The SUV was parked directly in front of the store window near the left side of the window — when facing the store.
A Skokie police officer shot one round, striking a male in the abdomen. Skokie firefighter/paramedics were dispatched at 11:37 p.m. A second ambulance was dispatched about 11:42 p.m.
The armed subject was transported by Skokie Fire Department firefighter/paramedics to a local hospital for treatment of his gunshot wound. Initially the severity of the man’s gunshot wound was not released.
According to Skokie Police Department, the Skokie police officer suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident.
A handgun was recovered from the scene.
The Illinois State Police Public Integrity Unit and the Skokie Police are conducting investigations into the incident as part of standard operating procedure in a police-involved shooting.
