Barrington Hills police and firefighter/paramedics from Barrington -Countryside FPD responded about 3:34 a.m. Saturday March 7, 2020 to a report that multiple people were shot at or near a home in the block of 300 Old Sutton Road.
UPDATE: Barrington Hills Police Department has confirmed that one male victim was found deceased at the scene after Barrington Hills Police Department received a report of shots fired at the address at 3:22 a.m. Saturday March 7, 2020. According to Barrington Hills Police Department, the preliminary investigation indicates there was a large party being held at the home by individuals from outside of Barrington Hills, who had rented the property on a short-term basis. According to Barrington Hills Police Department, the deceased male victim was not identified early in the investigation. Police said the identity of the victim will not be released until positive identification occurs and notification is made to next of kin. This was an isolated incident and there is no active threat to the health and safety of the general public, according to the Barrington Hills Police Department. Initially there was no confirmation that two other victims were wounded. Barrington Hills Police Department also did not initially confirm whether the deceased victim was found inside the home our outside near the home.
Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that there were multiple gunshot victims. At least two victims were transported to a local hospital. At least one victim was possibly dead at the scene.
Police are investigating whether an online marketplace for lodging, such as Airbnb, was being used to stay at a luxury home and host a party at the luxury home. The minimum property size in Barrington Hills is 5 acres, and the neighborhood includes horse ranches and multi-million dollar homes. A home down the street on Old Sutton Road is currently listed for $11.8 million dollars. There have been reports nationwide of disturbing parties at luxury homes or luxury apartments shared temporarily via Airbnb or other lodging sharing broker services using a smartphone app.
Police on the scene did not answer any questions about the case. The Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT) is assisting Barrington Hills Police Department with the investigation. The MCAT command van arrived on the scene about 10:00 a.m. with police officers from multiple jurisdictions assisting at the scene. Forensics investigators were gathering evidence in an around the home.
Old Sutton Road was blocked Saturday morning between Otis Road and Algonquin Road, and was expected to be blocked for several hours.
Friendly, but concerned, neighbors passed the scene. One neighbor said he heard about five or six shots that sounded like they were fired from a semi-automatic weapon about 3:30 a.m. He said he also heard a lot of yelling. Another neighbor said he heard a lot sirens about 3:30 a.m. early Saturday morning.
