Four employees of WLS-Channel 7 were kept away from work Tuesday, March 3, 2020 after concern of a risk of exposure to the Novel Coronavirus Monday morning March 2, 2020.
An ABC 7 reporter and video/photographer interviewed a food service worker Monday morning sometime between about 9:15 a.m. and noon Monday, March 2, 2020 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. The ABC 7 Chicago employees were responding to breaking news from Sunday March 1, 2020 that the suburban Cook County Novel Coronavirus patient announced Saturday, February 29, 2020 was being treated at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.
A second video/photographer, who shook hands with the first video/photographer during a shift change, was also under consideration for risk of exposure.
The first video/photographer, the reporter, and the second video/photographer were told not to come to work in an “abundance of caution.”
The wife of the first photographer, who also is employed at the ABC 7 Chicago, was offered the opportunity to stay home and decided to stay home also — as a precaution.
All four employees were awaiting the results of COVID-19 tests on the food service worker before being allowed to return to work or undergo further isolation and possible testing.
