Police and firefighter/paramedics from Elk Grove Village responded about 5:55 a.m. Monday, February 3, 2020 to a report of a truck crash into a building at Landmeier Road and Lively Boulevard. Caller(s) reported that the immediately smelled natural gas.
Police and firefighters on arrival discovered a truck on the westbound side of Landmeier Road into a building with a gas leak. The building is located on the north side of Landmeier Road east of Lively Boulevard.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters made sure the building was evacuated, and went to work to temporarily cap the broken natural gas line. Nicor was dispatched to the scene and also capped the line.
As an extra precaution, Nicor crews are excavating in the parkway at the front of the building to completely block any chance of gas supply to the broken pipe before the truck is removed from building. The building also requires some stabilization with shoring.
It appears that the gas line was secured about 10:50 AM when Public Works crews begin to clear debris from the truck to prepare for its removal.
Landmeier Road will be closed between Lively Boulevard and Route 83 for an extended period.
