The League of Women Voters Arlington Heights – Mount Prospect – Buffalo Grove will celebrate the love of voting this Valentine’s Day, Friday, February 14th with their first fundraising gala at the Metropolis Ballroom, 6 South Vail in downtown Arlington Heights from 6:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. The event titled 100 Years and Beyond, commemorates the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment guaranteeing and protecting women’s constitutional right to vote.
Tickets may be purchased at Eventbrite (sales end in one day on February 12, 2020) and include dinner, dessert, dancing and live dueling pianos entertainment plus the opportunity to win fabulous prizes. There is also an option to become a member of the League of Women Voters – regardless of gender – when you buy your ticket or while at the event. The first 100 ticket buyers will receive a commemorative Susan B. Anthony dollar coin.
“We’re so excited to offer our community a chance to celebrate the right to vote and the progress we’ve made these past 100 years. It’s my hope the people who join us at the gala will see how they can make a difference and inspire those in their social circles to get involved.”
— Heidi Graham, President of League of Women Voters AH, MP & BG
Local elected officials in attendance will have an opportunity to raise a glass and toast the many accomplishments women in elected leadership positions have made and continue to make in suburban northwest Illinois communities as well as nationwide.
The LWVAH will recognize two outstanding partners who exemplify the League’s commitment to education and advocacy. Dan Petro, President of High School District 214’s School Board, will be given the organization’s first Ally Award for the work he has done to help bring programs sponsored and run by LWVAH volunteers to D214 high schools. Because of the LWVAH Birthday Envelopes Initiative, thousands of high school students, and first time voters, have received information on how to register to vote by their eighteenth birthday.
Regina de Leon Gomez will receive the Pat Lindner Award for her incredible work educating and advocating on behalf of the environment and climate change. Regina has worked tirelessly to bring together key stakeholders from across the State to work in concert on behalf of our environment.
