On Tuesday, February 4, 2020, the Lake County Sheriff’s Special Investigations Group concluded a long-term investigation into a convicted felon and documented street gang member who was illegally selling firearms.

Marcus A. Hudson, 24, of the 200 block of Woodland Drive, Round Lake Beach was arrested without incident on February 4, after Special Investigations Group Detectives witnessed him selling a semi-automatic pistol, which was later determined to have been stolen in an Ingleside burglary. Prior to that, Hudson sold a firearm which had been stolen during a burglary in the City of McHenry.

After reviewing the facts and evidence, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the following charges for Hudson:

Two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon (class 3 felonies)

Aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon (no FOID card) (class 4 felony)

Aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon (no CCL) (class 4 felony)

Sheriff John Idleburg said, “Firearms in the wrong hands often ends in tragedies. I am very proud of the investigative work and collaboration between our Special Investigations Group, ATF, and the other law-enforcement agencies involved in this investigation.”

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) Chicago Field Division are members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Special Investigations Group and had a significant role in this investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office thanks the McHenry Police Department, McHenry County Sheriff’s Police Narcotics Task Force, and the Round Lake Beach Police Department for their assistance in the investigation.

Hudson is due to appear at an initial court hearing this morning.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
