Police from Hawthorn Woods and firefighter/paramedics from Countryside FPD and Lake Zurich initially responded about 2:42 p.m. Wednesday February 19, 2020 to the block of 200 Joshua Drive of Hawthorn Woods to a report that a black dog was swimming in icy water with no people around. The small pond between Joshua Drive and Prairie Court is known as Countryside Glen Lake.
Hawthorn Woods police were first on the scene and reported seeing the dog on the ice from Prairie Court on the west side of Countryside Glen Lake.
Upon arrival, Countryside Engine 411’s crew discovered the dog was still stranded on the pond and a rescue diver wearing an orange gumby suit (Mustang immersion suit/exposure suit) was able to safely remove the dog. Firefighters reported they were working on accessing the dog by about 2:52 p.m. Crews operated on both sides of the pond. The dog was able to walk immediately after being rescued.
Lake Zurich responded with an ambulance as a precaution for standby for crews working at the scene.
