On Friday, February 7, 2020, at approximately 7:10 PM, Deerfield Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Deerfield Road and Beverly Place for the report of a person struck by a car. Deerfield police officers arrived and found an unresponsive victim lying in the roadway. The victim, later identified as 12 year-old Deerfield resident Chase Thompson, was transported by Deerfield Bannockburn Fire District firefighter/paramedics to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Chase Thompson was later transferred to Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.
Preliminary investigation indicates the victim was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on Deerfield Road. The vehicle did not stop at the scene and continued on Deerfield Road. Evidence recovered at the scene indicates the vehicle is a dark colored 2013-2016 Ford Escape with an “SEL” or Titanium” trim package. The vehicle may have extensive damage to the passenger side headlight assembly, fender, grill and hood. Deerfield Police Department provided reference photos or file photos.
The victim, who has special needs and is non-verbal, remains in critical condition at Lurie’s with serious injuries. The victim’s father, Thad Thompson, said the boy managed to leave the family home without notice prior to the crash. The victim’s family and Deerfield Police Department are seeking the assistance of the public in attempting to locate and identify the driver of the vehicle. The family has offered a $10,000 reward for information resulting in a conviction or to assist the responsible party with legal fees should the driver surrender to police.
