A Chicago firefighter was shot just before 1:03 a.m. Sunday February 2, 2020 while on the scene of a car fire near Wilson Avenue and Kimball Avenue in Chicago’s Albany Park neighborhood.
Firefighters called for police to respond to the scene when they heard shots fired about 1:02 a.m. at the scene of the car fire near
Firefighters had been preparing to work on the car fire after arriving on the scene at Kimball and Wilson about 1:00 a.m. when shots were fired. At 1:03 a.m. firefighters reported a firefighter was down after the shots were fired.
The firefighter was shot in the left leg.
Chicago police released that they are investigating and processing video of the scene. Police recovered three illegal guns from a nearby apartment in the block of 3300 West Wilson Avenue, and believe the male firefighter was hit while the shooter was firing at another target.
The firefighter was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital, where he was listed in fair condition.
Initially there were no arrests.
