Police and firefighter/paramedics from Arlington Heights and Buffalo Grove responded about 3:58 a.m. Tuesday January 14, 2020 to a report of a house fire in the block of 1400 East Fleming Drive in Arlington Heights. Police and firefighters received a report while responding that a fire started in a microwave.
A woman, who lived in the house, ran across the street to get help, but by the time the neighbor reached the front door, the woman had run to another house for help. Her face near her mouth was covered with soot. She was transported to a nearby hospital by Buffalo Grove firefighter/paramedics.
Engine 4’s crew on arrival reported smoke in the area, and in a short time flames were showing through the roof. Firefighter reported heavy fire at the right, rear corner of the house (C-D corner).
Quint 25’s crew was assigned to raise their ladder as a precaution.
Squad 2’s crew reported the fire was through the roof, and reported the main fire was knocked on the first floor by about 4:14 a.m.
Engine 2 and Squad 2’s crews extinguished the fire on the second floor and in the attic by about 4:27 a.m.
No other known injuries were initially reported.
Firefighters returned to the scene for a “re-kindle” about 8:30 a.m. after police patrolling the site notice a small amount smoke coming from the siding of the house.
