Wheeling police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:23 a.m. Monday January 13, 2020 after a police officer discovered a teen dead near the Canadian National Railway railroad tracks near Lake Cook Road. A Metra engineer initially spotted the teen’s body and notified Wheeling Police Department.
Wheeling police stated that the teen, whose identity was not released by police, left home Sunday evening January 12, 2020 and was reported missing early Monday morning. Wheeling Police stated no further details were available because of the teen’s age and the sensitivity of the situation. Wheeling police stated foul play is not suspected in the death. The body of a 16-year-old Wheeling boy was found near the Canadian National Railway railroad tracks on the south side of the Lake-Road Road overpass, and below the Lake-Cook Road overpass.
Canadian Pacific Railway trains and trains on Metra’s North Central Service line, which provide commuting service between Antioch and Union Station in Chicago, were halted in both directions via notification by Wheeling police starting just before 7:29 a.m. and remained halted for about an hour while police investigated the scene.
