Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies report they arrested a Wadsworth woman for DUI and a Scott’s Law Violation after she drove drunk into the rear end of marked Lake County Sheriff’s police SUV.
On Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at approximately 10:35 p.m., a Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver of a vehicle pulled over on eastbound Wadsworth Road just east of Delany Road, Wadsworth. While the Lake County sheriff’s deputy was speaking to the violator, the deputy had their emergency lights on the squad car active.
As the sheriff’s deputy was speaking to the traffic violator, a 2013 GMC Acadia, driven by Corey L. Kirschhoffer, 47, of the block of 39800 North Mauser Drive, Wadsworth, struck the rear-end of the Lake County Sheriff’s police SUV. Initially no injuries were from the crash.
Lake County Sheriff’s deputies determined Kirschhoffer was driving under the influence of alcohol. She was arrested and transported to the Lake County Jail.
Kirschhoffer was subsequently charged with:
Two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol (misdemeanors)
Failure to yield to an emergency vehicle (Scott’s Law)
Failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident (traffic infraction)
Kirschhoffer was held in the Lake County Jail overnight until Thursday morning a court hearing, and was released on $20,000 bond.
“All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.”
— Lake County Sheriff’s Office
Corey L. Kirschhoffer has served as a Newport Township Trustee since 2013, and since 2015 has served as a secretary on the board of Wetlands Research, Inc. — an independent initially founded as a joint venture between the Lake County Forest Preserve District and the Openlands Project, a Chicago-based conservation organization.
