Illinois State Police responded about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday January 15, 2020 to a report of shots fired on Route 53 near Algonquin Road, according to a witness in the area. The witness reported that a vehicle was stuck by bullets, but it was unknown if the vehicle remained at the scene or stopped at another location.
Southbound IL-53/I-290(EB) was shut down about 6:15 p.m. and was re-opened about 7:10 p.m. Wednesday during an apparent investigation by Illinois State Police troopers.
No injuries were reported and no fire or ambulance units were dispatched in the area during the operation. Initially no details about the operation were released by Illinois State Police.
In an apparently unrelated incident, paramedics and police were evaluating a highly intoxicated male at the exit ramp from eastbound I-90 to Arlington Heights Road about 6:05 p.m. Wednesday January 15, 2020. It was initially unknown whether he was a pedestrian or a motorist.
