There are devastating Australian bushfires that have been burning since September 2019 and may continue to burn at least until March 2020. The 2019-2020 fire season is considered one of the worst in Australia’s history. There have been at least 25 fatalities and 2500 buildings destroyed as of January 5, 2020.
The fire has killed thousands of Koalas and millions of other native animals.
It has been described as Australia's Galapagos Islands and has long been a refuge for some of the country's most endangered creatures. But devastating bushfires have undone decades of careful conservation work on Kangaroo Island https://t.co/TmApS9zJLX

WIRES EMERGENCY FUND for Wildlife
“Australia, I love you. My heart goes out to everyone suffering in Australia, and all the animals we’ve lost”
— Ellen DeGeneres, 77th Golden Globe Awards, January 5, 2020
Ellen DeGeneres has promoted the support of WIRES Australian Wildlife Rescue Organization, an Australian wildlife rescue nonprofit.
Entire communities have been evacuated with citizens living in shelters. Volunteer firefighters are working around the clock to fight the bushfires, leaving their own families behind.
Here’s what people can do to help Australian citizens, firefighters and animals …
HELP the Australian Red Cross, which has volunteers at evacuation and recovery centers.
HELP the Salvation Army Australia, which launched a disaster appeal. The Salvation Army Australia is providing shelter and meals to evacuees and front-line responders.
HELP the St. Vincent de Paul Society Australia, which is requesting money to help evacuated families cover bills and rebuild.
HELP the New South Wales Rural Fire Service, which set up specific funds for the families of two firefighters, and has ongoing funds for community needs. Firefighters Geoffrey Keaton, 32, and Andrew O’Dwyer, 36, from the Horsley Park brigade, were in a truck convoy near the town of Buxton late on Thursday December 19, 2020 when a tree fell into their path, causing a rollover vehicle crash that killed them at the scene.
