Police and firefighter/paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 6:10 p.m. Wednesday December 18 2019 to a report of smoke coming from the basement of the church.
Firefighters on scene confirmed smoke in the building. Engine 2’s crew was then assigned to connect to a positive water supply.
Several people were evacuated from the building by the time firefighters arrived.
Firefighters focused their investigation on a basement utility room. The incident was secured by 6:40 p.m. and some people were allowed back in the church to get personal belongings, accompanied by police.
About 6:45 p.m. a fire lieutenant reported crews found the source of the smoke, but did not initially state the details.
Extra crews were also returned by a about 6:45 p.m.
