Lake County Sheriff’s deputies responded about 12:45 p.m. December 18, 2019 at approximately 12:45 p.m. to a traffic crash with injuries on Route 12 in the area of Timberlake Road, North Barrington. Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and located an SUV and semi-truck both with heavy damage.
The driver of the Mercedes-Benz was treated by Wauconda and possibly Lake Zurich firefighter/paramedics; and was treated and transported by a Flight for Life medical helicopter crew to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. The Palatine man he arrived at Condell with critical injuries. Lake County Sheriff’s office did not initially report whether the truck driver was injured.
Preliminary investigation shows a 2003 Mercedes-Benz SUV, driven by a 44-year-old male of Palatine, was traveling northbound on Route 12 in the area of Timberlake Road. For an unknown reason the driver of the Mercedes-Benz crossed the grassy median and drove into the southbound lanes of traffic, striking a southbound 1995 Freightliner Truck that was pulling a trailer. The truck was driven by a 52-year-old male of Elgin. The impact caused the Mercedes-Benz to roll into the ditch on the west side of Route 12.
Both lanes of Route 12 were closed until approximately 3:35 p.m., when the northbound lanes were reopened. The southbound lanes remained closed, but re-opened by 5:50 p.m.
The crash is under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
