A male suspect is facing weapons charges after being arrested at the scene of a memorial party where 13 people were shot, and police say more charges could be coming. CBS 2’s Jeremy Ross reports.

A male suspect has been accused of being the shooter at an incident that injured 13 people in a greystone apartment building in the block of 5700 South May Street at about 12:35 a.m. Sunday December 22, 2019. Four people were listed in critical condition at two area Level 1 Trauma Centers.

Chicago police charged Marciano White, 37, with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon after he was captured immediately after the shooting. Chicago police said he was seen leaving the location clutching a bag across his body, and attempted to elude police as officers approached Marciano White. White was captured and found in possession of a firearm in the block of 1100 West 57th Street, according to Chicago Police Department.

The shooting occurred at a large memorial party. The shooting was related to a dispute at a house party that was “given in memorial of a subject slain in April,” according to Chief of Patrol Fred Waller, who spoke at a news conference Sunday. Police did not initially provide information whether any other charges will be filed.

The shooting victims range in age from 16 to 48 and suffered “different and various gunshot wounds to their bodies,” according to police. Chicago Fire Department activated an EMS Plan 1 and had seven ambulances respond to the shooting scene.

Patients were triaged, and four patients were initially transported to Level 1 Trauma Centers at Cook County Stroger and at University of Chicago, where they were listed in critical condition.
