Following an investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Special Investigations Group, they conducted a search warrant at a residence in the block of 1200 Lincoln Street, North Chicago, on Thursday December 19, 2019. The person under investigation, Ruben A. Garcia, 30, a documented street gang member of the same address, was found to be in possession of nearly 30 grams of powder cocaine packaged for distribution, two semiautomatic pistols, numerous rounds of ammunition, and drug paraphernalia.
Garcia was arrested and the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the following charges:
Armed habitual criminal (class X felony)
Unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute (class X felony)
Unlawful possession of a controlled substance (class 1 felony)
Unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia (class A misdemeanor)
Lake County Sheriff John Idleburg said, “Removing illegally possessed firearms and drugs from our communities is the precise mission of the Special Investigations Group. I am thankful they moved quickly to keep this documented street gang member from being able to sell drugs or illegally possess firearms in our community.”
Garcia remains held in the Lake County Jail on $350,000.00 bail. He is next due in court on January 8, 2020, at 1:30PM in courtroom T110.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
