COOK COUNTY, IL – Cook County Sheriff’s Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a full-size General Motors SUV that struck and killed a 22-year-old man in unincorporated Proviso Township near Loyola University Medical Center, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced Sunday.
At approximately 10:24 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, Cook County Sheriff’s Police responded to a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian in the 1300 block of 1st Avenue in unincorporated Proviso Township. At the scene, Cook County Sheriff’s Police learned that a dark colored, full-size GM SUV – possibly a Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, or Cadillac Escalade – was traveling southbound on 1st Avenue when it struck the victim.
The victim has been identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as Akin M. Jones, of the 10300 block of Cambridge Street in Westchester.
The SUV continued south on 1st Avenue and left the area. Cook County Sheriff’s Police are reviewing video footage from security cameras located in the vicinity of the incident, which show the vehicle believed to have been involved in the incident.
Anyone with information about a vehicle fitting the description that has seen indications of recent damage to the front driver’s side is asked to contact Cook County Sheriff’s Police at 708-865-4896.
Roads are blocked in the area of the scene just east of Loyola University Medical Center, where there is an crash investigation.
