Lake County Sheriff’s deputies responded Tuesday December 10, 2019 to a report of a residential burglary at a house in the block of 18100 West Lindenwood Drive in unincorporated Grayslake, southeast of Gages Lake. The burglar allegedly stole cash from the residence, along with an interior security camera.
Further investigation and analysis of security video stored in a cloud configuration connected to the camera revealed the burglary suspect inside the house and revealed him stealing the camera that was recording the burglary. The camera had been previously installed by the burglary victim at his house.
The suspect was identified as Carlos H. Zelaya, 32, who lives on the same street and in the same block as the victim. Zelaya is a neighbor of the victim.
Today, Wednesday December 11, 2019, sheriff’s detectives arrested Zelaya at his residence. The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved a residential burglary (class 1 felony) charge.
Zelaya remains held in the Lake County Jail pending an initial court hearing.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office reminded readers that defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
