Police and firefighter/paramedics from Jersey City and Hudson County responded about 12:30 p.m. ET Tuesday December 10, 2019 to a report of an active shooter after a law enforcement was shot at Bay View Cemetery on Garfield Avenue in Jersey City. There was a shootout at the cemetery.
UPDATE: Two active shooters are down, after being shot. They are described as juveniles. There was possibly a third active shooter at large in the Sacred Heart School, but the school has been cleared. Police are still looking for a possible third suspect described as a male/black offender dressed in all black.
An undercover law enforcement officer was shot in a cemetery in an incident that is described as an ambush. The offenders reportedly fled the first scene at the cemetery in a U-Haul van, driving from the Bay View Cemetery to an area near a Kosher supermarket on Martin Luther King Street between Wegman Parkway and Wilkinson Avenue in Jersey City. Another body has been spotted near the Kosher supermarket at the scene. The second scene on Martin Luther King Drive is located about one mile northeast of the Bay View Cemetery.
At least two shooter offenders are armed with long guns. Shooter offenders dressed in black have been seen jumping from roof to roof. There is a report that the shooters were shooting at anyone located on the street below.
Jersey City police and New Jersey State Police have responded to the standoff. Federal ATF and FBI agents in Newark also confirmed they are responding to the scene.
Twelve schools in the Greenville area, the southern portion of Jersey City, near the scenes are in lockdown.
Martin Luther King Drive is closed between Wegman Parkway and Wilkinson Avenue.
Bidwell Avenue is closed between Bergen Avenue and Ocean Avenue.
Bayview Avenue is closed between Bergen Avenue and Ocean Avenue.
