While the dining establishments near the heart of downtown Arlington Heights at Campbell Street and Vail Avenue are enjoying completed construction from a summer-long downtown construction project, some downtown areas — mostly north of Northwest Highway — remain incomplete.
Sidewalks at the perimeter of North School Park were completed in time for the Holiday Tree Lighting event Friday November 29, 2019, but the sidewalk just south of North School Park along Arlington Heights Road remains closed.
The project completion is apparently late, considering cold weather makes the work difficult for construction workers while handling and cutting materials. Additionally, the greater risk of snow accumulation could further delay completion of the project.
Possibly due to cold-weather installation, several bricks installed in place at the northeast corner of Arlington Heights Road and Northwest Highway appear to be affected by cracks. The cracks could be trip hazards, especially for people who use canes. The northeast corner of Northwest Highway also remains partially obstructed by a pile of broken bricks, a steel manhole piece stored in the open, and downed barricades — placed dangerously close to Northwest Highway.
With the onset of the holiday shopping season, Chase Bank customers are not able to use the bank’s drive-thru, which is closed because of work being done near the bank’s Dunton Avenue sidewalk.
In an information report for November 26 – 27, 2019 the Village of Arlington Heights reported that …
All streets are open to traffic!
The mid-block crossing on Dunton Avenue will remain closed to pedestrian traffic temporarily. The new poles, along with the push buttons, and signs above ground will be installed at a later date due to long lead times for manufacturing of the decorative poles.
The contractor anticipates beginning work on the itemized punch list today, Tuesday, November 26th. The sidewalks at Sigwalt and Dunton will be completed as part of that list.
Demobilization and cleanup continues at the temporary construction yard at the Block 425 site. Area will be seeded and covered with an erosion control blanket.
The Village of Arlington Heights also reported that the outlook for December 2-6, 2019 involves the contractor continuing the itemized punch list until completion.
The remaining construction is part of a huge $3,649,582 project that included new and upgraded combined sewers to prevent some relief from basement backups during heavy storms nearby; and street and structure flooding on Campbell Street west of Vail Avenue. Also many streets were re-surfaced.
Primarily, the visible construction that has not been completed involves the replacement of brick sidewalks and/or cleanup of construction debris …

the southwest corner of Arlington Heights Road and Miner Street near Hancock Square (apartments),

The Village of Arlington Heights reported that the November 26, 2019 update would be the last update for the “Downtown Construction Project.”
